There are some who are highly interested in having a truly memorable wedding.  For some of those the idea of a traditional wedding cake for everyone just seems a bit boring.  There is nothing that says you cannot have a small wedding cake for looks purposes that you keep for your private enjoyment and still offer your guests something spectacular and delicious. 

Idea #1.  Candy Bar.  Does the idea of tons of candy strike your fancy?  If so, consider a candy bar for the reception.  With a nice assortment of a large variety of candy, this can be a great alternative to the traditional cake reception that most people opt to go with.  This is not a suggestion that those who are diabetic should really follow though, unless you opt to include some sugar-free varieties as well. 

Idea #2.  S’mores.  This is a great thing that can easily be handled, simply load up on chocolate, graham crackers, and marshmallows.  Then you need a couple of small warmers that will serve to melt the marshmallow and you have a nice setup for s’mores easily and for less than a cake will cost.  Many people love the great outdoor treat and this is something that is a great idea for a casual wedding. 

Idea #3.  Ice Cream Bar.  If you love ice cream and it is a summer wedding, especially this may be the perfect idea for you.  Many places offer catering for ice cream, including the Marble Slab Creamery, which will bring a slab along with your choice of ice cream, and toppings and mix up the creation to melt your heart and satisfy almost everyone on the guest list.  This is not always a cheap option if you choose to have it catered, which is likely a good option considering they will have the equipment to keep all of the ice cream from melting within a few short minutes, but if you are doing a small wedding you could easily ask a friend to man the ice cream bar and save a bucket of money.
